The prototype imagery shows that Nike had not initially planned to make the Magista with the FlyKnit material that is now so central to the boot. Rather it seems that they experimented with a number of uppers including a dimpled Nike skin-esque material.

While ultimately Nike chose to replace the CTR Maestri with the Magista Obra another prototype shows that initially the boot was going to be a continuation of its popular control silo. One of the prototypes shows the word ¡°Maestri¡±on the ankle liner, while another features a colourway very similar to one seen on the CTR. This was part of the plan until one year from launch, at which point Nike changed plans completely and registered the ¡°Magista trademark¡±.

Nike also experimented with a number of soleplates, including that seen on the Mercurial Vapor and heel designs. Ultimately the team at Nike settled on a final design featuring a FlyKnit upper and a layer of NikeSkin.
